Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has emphasized the need for increased investment in physical education and sports, highlighting their role in enhancing public health and strengthening national capacity. At a recent sports development meeting, Lam outlined a strategic vision where sports are not only cultural and social activities but integral to the nation’s human development and workforce strategy.

Lam advocated for improved school sports programs, calling for enhanced facilities, equipment, and the training of qualified teachers. He suggested that public sports facilities should be more accessible outside of school hours and recommended the creation of exercise spaces in urban areas, residential communities, and industrial zones to promote wider participation.

For elite sports, Lam proposed a comprehensive talent development system that includes early identification of promising athletes, professional training, scientific support, and opportunities for international competition. He stressed the importance of focusing investment on disciplines where athletes have the potential to compete on the world stage.

Recognizing the broader components of athletic success, Lam highlighted the significance of sports science, including medicine, nutrition, recovery, psychology, and data-driven training techniques, as essential tools for enhancing athletic performance.

To further boost the sports sector, Lam called for the development of a sports economy through increased participation from both society and the private sector, while ensuring government oversight and reinforcing the role of sports organizations. This approach aims to create a sustainable environment for sports to flourish, contributing to national health and strength.
