Vietnam and Laos have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen strategic ties during a meeting between Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng and Lao National Assembly President Sonexay Siphandone in Vientiane on October 8. This meeting, part of Hưng’s official visit to Laos, underscored the longstanding friendship and special solidarity between the two neighboring countries.

The leaders discussed progress in various areas including political relations, defense, security, foreign affairs, trade, and investment. They also highlighted the importance of cooperation in education, transport, energy, culture, and people-to-people exchanges as integral components of their bilateral relationship.

Both sides agreed on the implementation of existing agreements and emphasized the need to focus on translating diplomatic understanding into concrete outcomes. They addressed the importance of enhancing the business environment, tackling regulatory challenges, and accelerating key economic cooperation projects to boost bilateral investment.

Prime Minister Hưng urged the Lao National Assembly to support policies that would mobilize public and private resources, improve the execution of development projects, and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese and Lao businesses operating in each other’s markets. The leaders also underscored the importance of stronger cooperation between their national legislatures, which includes delegation exchanges, sharing legislative experiences, and closer coordination at regional and international parliamentary forums.

Promoting people-to-people exchanges, especially among younger generations, was identified as a priority to foster awareness of the shared history and strengthen public understanding of the countries’ enduring friendship. Additionally, discussions included preparations for the Vietnam–Laos and Laos–Vietnam Year of Solidarity, Friendship, and Cohesion in 2027, marking significant anniversaries in their diplomatic history.

Amid changing regional and international conditions, both leaders reaffirmed the strategic importance of maintaining strong bilateral ties. They pledged continued collaboration on development priorities and implementation of agreements to deliver tangible benefits for the people of both countries.
