Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn held talks in Hà Nội with Miloš Vystrčil, President of the Senate of the Czech Republic, as part of the Czech leader’s official visit to Việt Nam from November 18–22. The meeting took place at a symbolic moment, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the first year of the Việt Nam–Czech Strategic Partnership framework, and the final session of Việt Nam’s 15th National Assembly.
Chairman Mẫn said the visit further strengthens the traditional friendship and parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. He thanked the Czech side for financial support to help Vietnamese people recover from recent storms and floods, and reiterated Việt Nam’s appreciation for the historic and ongoing support it has received from the Czech Republic.
Both sides affirmed the importance of their strategic partnership, noting frequent high-level exchanges in recent years, including visits by the prime ministers of both countries. Mẫn stressed that Việt Nam attaches great importance to enhancing multifaceted cooperation with the Czech Republic, its first Strategic Partner in Central and Eastern Europe.
Senate President Vystrčil welcomed the progress in economic and business ties and expressed satisfaction with recent business-matching activities between Vietnamese and Czech enterprises. He confirmed that the Czech Parliament supports and will continue encouraging EU member states to ratify the EU–Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to boost investment flows.
The two leaders agreed to deepen political trust by maintaining regular exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially through parliamentary channels. They underscored the role of legislatures in supervising and supporting the effective implementation of bilateral agreements and in advancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, science and technology, education, healthcare, culture, labour, tourism, energy, digital transformation, environmental protection, defence and security, and local-to-local ties. Both sides also encouraged airlines to explore direct flights to promote tourism, economic cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.
They noted that trade and investment remain central pillars of the relationship, highlighting joint projects such as the Skoda auto plant and the Mông Dương 2 power plant in Quảng Ninh. The two sides agreed to develop an action plan for the 2025–26 period to implement the Strategic Partnership framework more effectively.
On regional and global issues, Việt Nam and the Czech Republic pledged to continue close coordination and mutual support at multilateral and inter-parliamentary forums to contribute to peace, stability, and development. Chairman Mẫn also thanked the Czech authorities for supporting the Vietnamese community, describing it as an important bridge of friendship between the two countries. Vystrčil affirmed that the Czech Government and people hold a special regard for the Vietnamese community.
The Czech Senate President invited Chairman Mẫn to pay an official visit to the Czech Republic at a suitable time, and the invitation was warmly accepted.
