He died of natural causes at a retirement community for entertainment professionals in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles. “On Golden Pond” proved to be a monumental success, garnering 10 Academy Award nominations. Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn both won Oscars for their performances, while Rydell himself was nominated for Best Director. Notably, it was the final film role for Henry Fonda, who received his only Oscar for his performance.
