In a bid to strengthen their strategic partnership, Vietnam and Azerbaijan are exploring expanded cooperation in trade and travel. Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan’s recent discussions in Baku with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva highlighted shared ambitions to enhance bilateral relations across various sectors. This dialogue took place during Xuan’s participation in the seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) on October 14.
The talks underscored the commitment of both countries to advance their strategic partnership, which was formalized following a visit by Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam to Azerbaijan in 2025. Key areas of potential growth include the oil and gas industry, energy, transportation, agriculture, and tourism, alongside education, science, and technology. Joint energy projects and investment opportunities for businesses were among the focal points of discussion.
Both nations agreed on the importance of strengthening high-level exchanges and improving coordination among government agencies to effectively implement existing bilateral agreements. They also considered the introduction of visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders and the establishment of direct air routes to facilitate business, travel, and tourism exchanges.
Cooperation in culture, education, mining, and aluminum production was also emphasized, with a focus on enhancing people-to-people ties. Furthermore, Vietnam and Azerbaijan pledged to deepen their coordination at regional and international forums, with a shared commitment to support multilateralism and uphold the United Nations Charter and international law.
