This comes as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm underscored the strengthening ties between the two countries, highlighting that Côte d’Ivoire became Vietnam’s largest trading partner on the African continent in 2025. Tô Lâm emphasized the need for a broader trade relationship that extends beyond the usual exchange of cashew nuts and rice.
In an effort to diversify and enhance their economic engagement, Vietnam is advocating for increased investment collaboration in numerous fields. These include agriculture, telecommunications, oil and gas, digital transformation, cybersecurity, infrastructure, mineral processing, and the burgeoning electric vehicle industry. This initiative aims to create a more comprehensive and mutually beneficial economic partnership between the two nations.
Côte d’Ivoire has reciprocated the interest, expressing a desire to attract Vietnamese businesses and expand collaborative efforts throughout West Africa. This mutual interest signals a robust opportunity for economic growth and development, leveraging the strengths of both countries to benefit their respective markets and beyond.
In addition to economic ties, both nations are keen on enhancing their relationship through other avenues. Discussions have been held on the importance of strengthening parliamentary exchanges, fostering educational partnerships, developing the workforce, and promoting people-to-people connections.
