Vietnam and Denmark have taken a significant step in their diplomatic relations by forming a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This development, announced during Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, marks an effort to deepen cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, technology, defense, and sustainable development.
The partnership builds on previous agreements, enhancing their Comprehensive Partnership established in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023. As both nations celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations, they have committed to expanding political dialogue, parliamentary exchanges, and economic collaboration. Key areas of focus include renewable energy, green technology, digital transformation, manufacturing, healthcare, education, and transport.
Among the priorities, Vietnam and Denmark aim to strengthen their efforts in climate action and energy efficiency, particularly through the development of renewable energy projects. This aligns with Vietnam’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Additionally, the partnership will address maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health.
The two nations also reinforced their dedication to international law and multilateral cooperation, emphasizing the peaceful resolution of disputes and regional stability. They expressed support for freedom of navigation and a stronger collaboration with ASEAN.
To ensure the practical implementation of their commitments, both governments plan to develop action plans that will guide the partnership’s progress. This includes encouraging business investments, strengthening supply chains, and improving market access through existing trade agreements.
