Apple has announced a significant increase in the prices of several iPad and MacBook models in Australia, attributing this change to escalating costs for memory and storage components driven by the global surge in demand linked to artificial intelligence advancements. This adjustment has resulted in some devices becoming more than 20% pricier, significantly impacting the affordability of Apple’s computers for consumers.
The price hike is notably evident in the MacBook Air 13-inch, which has seen its cost rise from $1,799 to $2,099. Similarly, Apple’s more affordable MacBook models have also experienced price increases. The iPad lineup, including the standard iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro, has not been spared, with all models seeing considerable price jumps.
Apple clarified that it had previously absorbed the rising production costs but has now reached a threshold where altering prices has become unavoidable. The company pointed out a rapid escalation in the prices of components, particularly memory and storage chips, which has necessitated these adjustments. Interestingly, the iPhone range has not yet been impacted by these price increases. However, analysts predict that future iPhone models may not remain immune to price hikes, as tech companies continue to grapple with the increasing costs of components.
