In a significant political event, Vietnam’s 16th National Assembly is convening its first extraordinary session from August 3 to August 24 in Hanoi. This session is set to address a comprehensive legislative agenda, with lawmakers engaging in discussions and decisions on numerous major national projects.
The assembly has an extensive list of 33 agenda items to consider. Among these are the passing of 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions, alongside the initial readings of seven additional bills. The proposed legislation spans a variety of crucial sectors, including petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense, reflecting the diverse priorities and challenges facing the country.
In addition to legislative matters, lawmakers will deliberate on several key national issues. This includes a review of significant infrastructure and development projects. Among the projects under consideration are the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5, changes to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project, and the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project. These projects highlight the country’s ongoing efforts to enhance its infrastructure and energy capabilities.
Furthermore, the session will explore the establishment of new cities, specifically Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh, as part of broader urban development plans. Special policy mechanisms for renewable energy, preparations for the APEC 2027 projects, and initiatives for digital transformation will also be on the agenda. These discussions underscore Vietnam’s commitment to advancing its economic and technological landscape in alignment with global trends.
