Vietnam has reiterated its dedication to aiding Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), underlining the significance of the Five-Point Consensus as the primary framework for fostering peace and stability in Myanmar. This commitment was highlighted during an informal ASEAN foreign ministers’ meeting held in Bangkok, where Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung articulated Vietnam’s recognition of Myanmar as a vital ASEAN member. He emphasized Vietnam’s support for initiatives aimed at promoting national reconciliation, economic recovery, and improved governance in Myanmar.
Minister Lê Hoài Trung called for ASEAN to take more practical and concrete steps, advocating for regular dialogue and direct engagement with Myanmar to closely monitor developments and encourage substantial progress. His call to action underscored the need for ASEAN to go beyond rhetoric and actively contribute to resolving Myanmar’s ongoing challenges.
In addition to expressing its support, Vietnam conveyed its willingness to collaborate closely with the 2026 ASEAN Chair and other member states to assist Myanmar in overcoming social challenges. This includes efforts to combat transnational crime and enhance regional cooperation, which are seen as essential components in achieving a stable and prosperous Myanmar.
The ASEAN ministers collectively reaffirmed their commitment to backing a Myanmar-led resolution through sustained dialogue and effective implementation of the Five-Point Consensus. Their united stance aims to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development not only in Myanmar but throughout the ASEAN region.
