Efforts to maintain security and public order along the Vietnam-Cambodia border are set to intensify following a recent agreement between police forces from both nations. This collaboration aims to curb cross-border crimes such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and smuggling, which have long plagued the region.
At a conference held in Tây Ninh, Vietnam, on Friday, law enforcement officials from Vietnam’s Tây Ninh Province and Cambodia’s Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, and Tboung Khmum provinces committed to enhancing their cooperation. The meeting focused on improving strategies for information exchange and coordination to effectively tackle criminal activities that transcend national borders.
The police forces have already been working together to address various criminal issues, including money laundering and online fraud. The recent agreement will further bolster these efforts, with an emphasis on direct communication and regular meetings to ensure that cases involving cross-border crime are handled promptly and efficiently.
Key measures discussed at the conference include increasing patrols and monitoring border trails and crossings to prevent illegal entries and exits that could aid organized transnational crime. Additionally, both sides agreed to enhance their collaborative efforts in combating terrorism, arms trafficking, and high-tech crime, while also addressing new non-traditional security challenges.
The conference culminated in the signing of a memorandum of cooperation, marking a significant step toward strengthening crime prevention and ensuring the safety and security of border areas between Vietnam and Cambodia.
