Vietnam and Canada have taken a significant step in strengthening their bilateral relations by adopting an Action Plan for their Strategic Partnership. The plan, formulated during talks between Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Ottawa, outlines specific areas for enhanced cooperation between the two nations.

The Action Plan aims to transform commitments made by the leaders of both countries into concrete programs and projects. It encompasses a wide range of sectors, including political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare, education, energy security, sustainable development, transport, infrastructure, defense and security, law enforcement, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of regularly reviewing and updating the plan to ensure its effective implementation. They called for stronger coordination between government agencies, local authorities, and businesses. Additionally, they agreed to bolster existing bilateral consultation mechanisms and explore new dialogue frameworks of strategic significance.

The discussions also covered regional and international issues, with both countries agreeing to enhance cooperation through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC. Vietnam and Canada committed to supporting each other in hosting APEC meetings in 2027 and 2029. Furthermore, Vietnam expressed its support for Canada’s hosting of the Francophonie Summit in 2028.
