Vietnam’s capital, Hà Nội, has been urged to accelerate its economic growth while maintaining a focus on sustainable development, following a recent meeting with Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm. In discussions with the city’s leadership, Tô Lâm emphasized the importance of not only boosting the economy but also improving governance and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. He acknowledged the city’s advancements in institutional reforms, infrastructure, and administrative processes but highlighted the need to overcome obstacles such as underutilized resources and sluggish growth.
Tô Lâm identified several key areas where authorities could make significant improvements, particularly by expediting major urban projects that have faced delays. The call to action includes unlocking idle resources and providing greater support for businesses, tourism, and innovation sectors. Moreover, the enhancement of public services stands as a priority, with specific attention to tackling traffic congestion, reducing pollution levels, expanding housing opportunities, and making substantial investments in education, healthcare, and digital transformation.
Despite some challenges, Hà Nội has set ambitious economic goals, aiming for an 11% growth in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by 2026. This target comes on the heels of an 8.22% economic growth recorded in the first half of this year, a figure that surpasses the national average. This achievement underscores the city’s potential to lead economic expansion within the country, provided that it continues to address existing issues and capitalizes on its strengths.
