In a significant diplomatic engagement, Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc hosted Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys in Hanoi, with discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation across crucial sectors. Both leaders recognized the substantial potential for deepening ties in various domains, including trade, investment, the digital economy, energy, logistics, cybersecurity, and science and technology.
During the meeting, Vietnam urged Lithuania to advocate for the completion of the ratification process of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) among the remaining EU member states. Additionally, Vietnam requested Lithuania’s support in lobbying for the removal of the European Commission’s “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood exports, a move seen as pivotal to boosting Vietnam’s export capabilities.
In response, Lithuania reaffirmed its dedication to fortifying Vietnam-EU relations and revealed plans to dispatch a business delegation to Vietnam. This delegation aims to explore and identify new investment opportunities, signaling Lithuania’s commitment to expanding economic partnerships with Vietnam.
The two nations also agreed to bolster cooperation within international frameworks, notably at the United Nations. They expressed a shared intent to strengthen ASEAN-EU relations and underscored their support for maintaining peace, stability, and freedom of navigation, all in alignment with international law.
