Vietnam and Malaysia Enhance Defense Ties with Focus on Tech Innovation

Vietnam and Malaysia are taking significant strides to enhance their defence cooperation, aiming to bolster bilateral relations and support stability in the region. This collaborative effort was underscored during a meeting in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, and Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai. General Giang commended the ambassador for his contributions to strengthening the cooperation between the two Southeast Asian nations.

During their discussions, General Giang emphasized the advancements in defence relations between Vietnam and Malaysia, highlighting the importance of regular military exchanges, policy dialogues, training partnerships, and joint participation in international and multilateral forums. These efforts reflect the commitment of both countries to work closely in addressing regional security challenges and fostering mutual understanding.

General Giang stressed the necessity of continuing with the implementation of current agreements and deepening engagement through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation frameworks. In a move to further solidify ties, he extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and military companies to join the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, set to take place in Hanoi.

Expressing gratitude, Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai acknowledged the support provided by Vietnam’s defence ministry and military throughout his tenure. He expressed optimism that the defence relations between the two countries would keep advancing, thereby contributing to the peace and prosperity of the region. His remarks underline a shared vision of a stable and cooperative Southeast Asia, with both nations playing pivotal roles.
