In a recent meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam and the World Bank have reinforced their dedication to collaborating on pivotal issues such as water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development. Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng, alongside senior World Bank officials, highlighted the importance of this partnership, with the Vietnamese government acknowledging the World Bank’s significant contributions to infrastructure development, environmental protection, agriculture, and sustainability efforts.
Deputy Prime Minister Dũng underscored the strategic importance of water security for Vietnam, especially in light of the increasing climate-related challenges affecting regions like the Mekong Delta. He expressed strong support for the World Bank’s “Water for the Future” initiative and emphasized the need for expanded, long-term cooperation in managing water resources and enhancing climate resilience.
The World Bank assured Vietnam of its continued support through various means, including financing, technical assistance, policy guidance, and international expertise. The bank outlined that water security and climate adaptation would be central themes in its forthcoming partnership framework with Vietnam, underscoring the critical nature of these issues in bilateral cooperation.
Discussions also covered the enhancement of collaboration in areas such as climate finance, sustainable water management, disaster resilience, and green development. Both parties expressed a commitment to accelerating projects that support vulnerable communities and foster long-term environmental sustainability, aiming to address the pressing needs of those most affected by climate change.
