Vietnam has underscored its increasingly pivotal role in fostering collaboration between ASEAN and Russia, following the recent ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit that celebrated 35 years of dialogue. The Vietnamese delegation, steered by Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, actively participated in the summit, which aimed to reinforce ASEAN’s central position and strengthen its strategic partnership with Russia. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized Vietnam’s substantial contributions to the summit’s success, highlighting efforts to promote dialogue, cooperation, peaceful dispute resolution, and adherence to international law.
At the summit, Vietnam put forward proposals to broaden cooperation in crucial sectors such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. The summit concluded with the adoption of new frameworks designed to bolster ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with a particular focus on energy as a significant component of the partnership. Demonstrating its commitment to future regional collaboration, Vietnam announced plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027.
During the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in discussions with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, where both parties reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their talks centered on expanding joint efforts in areas including energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport.
The outcomes of the summit are expected to fortify ASEAN–Russia relations, contributing to regional stability and opening new avenues for economic growth and cooperation across the Eurasian region. With these developments, Vietnam continues to position itself as a key player in advancing regional cooperation and dialogue.
