Vietnam and Japan have solidified their commitment to enhancing cooperation between their ruling parties and legislative bodies. This was underscored during discussions in Hanoi involving Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior official from the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, the Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
The two nations celebrated the ongoing growth of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They expressed intentions to advance political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges, a move building on Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year. This dialogue aims to fortify the bilateral relationship and foster mutual understanding through increased legislative collaboration.
Nguyễn Duy Ngọc emphasized Vietnam’s robust economic performance and current administrative reforms. He suggested that Japan could assist Vietnam by sharing its expertise in local governance and decentralization, which would support Vietnam’s institutional development. Additionally, he advocated for expanded cooperation in several areas, including human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology.
Moreover, the Vietnamese representative called for enhanced collaboration between the parliamentary friendship groups of both nations and encouraged greater interaction among young lawmakers. In terms of people-to-people connectivity, the Vietnamese side requested ongoing support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan. They also proposed simplifying visa procedures with the ultimate aim of establishing visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens to Japan.
Hagiuda Koichi expressed Japan’s support for deepening bilateral cooperation. He affirmed that Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party, along with its parliament, would continue to promote exchanges and joint initiatives focused on advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. This commitment underscores the shared goals of both countries to foster innovation and a sustainable future through strategic partnership.
