Vietnam is actively pursuing enhanced trade and investment ties with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, aiming to boost market access and foster stronger economic partnerships. In an effort to advance these goals, Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân has emphasized the importance of leveraging the Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement more effectively to bolster bilateral trade and investment. She also suggested that both parties consider upgrades to the agreement while urging the EAEU to resolve existing trade barriers affecting Vietnamese exports such as textiles, footwear, and rice.
During discussions, both Vietnam and the EAEU acknowledged the need to improve trade data coordination, expedite the meetings of their joint committee, and enhance the use of electronic certificates of origin. EAEU officials noted that bilateral trade has nearly doubled, indicating significant potential for further growth in economic relations between the two sides.
In a separate engagement, Vice President Xuân met with Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Eissa. She called for more frequent high-level exchanges and deeper economic cooperation between Vietnam and Egypt. Xuân highlighted the possibility of progressing toward a Vietnam-Egypt free trade agreement and identified key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, digital transformation, education, and renewable energy as areas ripe for expanded collaboration.
These discussions took place in Bishkek, where Vietnam was participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit. The events underscore Hanoi’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its economic and diplomatic ties with regional partners, positioning itself as a proactive player in fostering international economic relationships.
