In a bid to strengthen economic ties and attract foreign investment, Vietnam’s National Assembly President Trần Thanh Mẫn has been engaging with top executives from major South Korean conglomerates during his visit to Seoul. The meetings focused on expanding cooperation in high-tech industries, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and sustainable development.
During discussions with Samsung Electronics CEO Roh Tae-moon, Mẫn acknowledged Samsung’s significant role in Vietnam’s economic landscape through their investments, job creation, and support for local businesses. He urged Samsung to increase its high-tech investments to further aid Vietnam’s economic progress. Roh reaffirmed Samsung’s commitment to Vietnam’s development priorities, emphasizing digital transformation, technological innovation, and workforce development. The company has also been active in supporting Vietnamese businesses with initiatives in smart factory technology, automation, and skills development programs.
In another meeting, Mẫn spoke with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, encouraging the company to invest more in semiconductors, AI, renewable energy, and emission-reduction technologies. He expressed support for SK’s proposal to establish a large-scale AI center in Vietnam and its plans to explore further investments in energy infrastructure and AI data centers.
The engagement continued with LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuk-soo, where Mẫn highlighted LG Group’s more than $10 billion investment in Vietnam. He encouraged LG to enhance its cooperation with Vietnamese suppliers and strengthen technology and skills development. LG recognized Vietnam as a crucial component of its global production network.
Lastly, in his meeting with Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin, Mẫn pushed for expanded investments in smart urban development, infrastructure, tourism, and services. He emphasized the importance of accelerating major projects while upholding sustainability, green development, and ESG standards. These discussions underscore Vietnam’s strategic efforts to deepen economic collaboration with South Korea, particularly in advanced technology, energy, and digital industries.
