Vietnam and Panama to Enhance Trade and Economic Ties During Official Visit

by admin477351

Vietnam and Panama are poised to enhance their bilateral cooperation during Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino’s visit to Vietnam from October 5 to 8. The visit is set to focus on strengthening economic and trade ties between the two nations, with potential collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, telecommunications, infrastructure, maritime transport, port logistics, banking, tourism, and education.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1975, Vietnam and Panama have worked to expand their cooperation through high-level exchanges and diplomatic consultations. Both countries recognize the strategic advantage of their geographic positions in connecting Southeast Asian and Latin American markets, which they aim to leverage for mutual economic benefits.

Economic cooperation remains a cornerstone of the Vietnam-Panama relationship. In 2025, bilateral trade reached approximately $478.1 million, marking a 19.2% increase from the previous year. Vietnam’s exports to Panama include footwear, electronics, textiles, vehicles, and seafood, while Panama exports timber, seafood, and raw materials to Vietnam.

Panama’s strategic location along the Panama Canal is particularly significant, offering Vietnamese businesses increased access to Central American and Caribbean markets. This logistical advantage underscores the potential for expanded trade and investment between the two countries.

During President Mulino’s visit, both nations are expected to forge new agreements and initiatives aimed at bolstering trade, investment, and cooperation across various sectors. Additionally, Vietnam and Panama plan to reinforce existing mechanisms for political and economic cooperation, further solidifying their partnership.
